By all means protest

but is there any reason to get your shirts off? It's not real warm outside.

Today outside Flinders St station, the cabbies didn't think their all night street blockade was enough, so the shirts came off. Their spokesperson was none other than Mr Jazz Randyboy.

Put it in your ears.

Finally! Santogold's album drops tomorrow here and in the US. May 12 in the UK.

Puma x Sneaker Freaker Blaze of Glory launch - Melbourne

There's something that feels a bit cheeky about being into a venue that wouldn't normally allow 'casual attire', it's even funnier when venue owners are visibly sweating because their beloved club is full of sneaker types in jeans and tees. Not the case with Electric Ladyland, they were happy to let us in and even took drink orders from the comfy couches - cheers to you!

Double cheers to Sneaker Freaker, they fed us, watered us and introduced us to some dope sneaks (see below post) AND the super limited black colourway ooooh! You'll be lucky to get your mitts on a pair of these. If you do, don't let anyone even look at them the wrong way or you may have to fly kick them in the face and show them the shark skin up close.

The sea theme brings, blue drinks, sushi, fish and chips

Goody bags!

Pap's taking photos of the beautiful people

Wooo! What's inside the goody bag:

Sneaker Freaker issue 12 is out now!

I got my train ticket checked by the transits free coffee?

Where's my coffee?

The last fare evasion campaign was bearable. The latest, described as 'quirky and humorous' is really just a stupid waste of money. Apparently they show how bad luck can strike fare evaders in return for their actions. It even has its own website . Nice one, a Karma Llama, this site is the worst piece of shit I have ever seen.

Here's what really happens: People who don't buy tickets get a free ride and only get busted if they're in a 2 station radius of the city and they have their feet on the seats after 10pm on Friday nights. Oh sorry, you might be asked for a ticket if you're male, wearing a hoody and look under 25.

"The campaign, however, is not just about people who do the wrong thing. ‘Good karma’ is coming to those who pay their way over the coming weeks with train, tram and bus Authorised Officers distributing free coffee vouchers to compliant passengers as a reward." What!? That is complete rubbish. I will refrain from coffee for a week if I ever get one of those freebies.

How about avoiding bad karma by getting me to work on time, assholes.

Spam, although sometimes hilarious, is becoming annoying so I've had to put in word verification for comments. Bummer.

Section 8 - Melbourne

Friday nights are on again! Here are some pics from last nights installment, feat. old friends, new friends, long lost friends and a much needed rest from working my ass off this week. Come down next Fri for some end of week goodness.

Happy Birthday!

Beer a-plenty

Shhh, it's the Beatnuts

After Curvy 5 we headed over to Workshop, there were rumours that the Beatnuts were going to do a secret show. Workshop was empty when we got there but the place slowly filled out with suspicious heads wondering if, when and where they'd do a set.

Turns out that it all came true, a bit of a DJ set and some freestyling. Ahhh Melbourne, I love you.

I hate you.

Just a few people shots, I couldn't get close enough to the DJ booth to see anything...

Curvy 5 Launch

Unlike the fanfare of the Curvy 4 Launch in 2007 (Fafi, painted walls, tiny exhibition space and a million Asahi's - enough for everyone to be holding 4 at a time), issue number 5 was quite well behaved. It was nice to see some good artwork by the ladies who seem to be fond of drawing...ladies.

There was a large number of skinny jeaned, messy haired, scarf wielding, wayfarer wearing boys. These guys are the Beatnik's of  2008.

Soph D and Jess.

Loves it

I heard they were pulling these Billboards, but here's one right on the intersection of Bourke and Swanston.

What? Graffitist?

The Age has enlightened me to a new term. OK fair enough, it was a quote. I bet he made that one up with the Herald Sun.

If you don't have it, you need it.

I can't leave home without the stuff, I did today so had to buy some more and the price has gone up to $6 - WHAT? Seriously though, I would probably pay $20 if I had to.

For those that don't know, Lucas' Papaw Ointment is the best invention in the universe. Everyone owns it (except for Sophette who inists on keeping on with that minty green tube - ew, it goes all oily in the summer, get on to the red!) and it's probably the most understated product on earth. You can use it on anything and yes, it does stop misquito bites from becoming itchy and it's great for paper cuts. But it's ultimate job is being the best lip balm EVER. Really, I've tried everything else - Lucas all the way.

Triple whammy

So I headed into the newsagent this morning...

Ooh new Yen, hooray! Ooooooh Zooey's on the cover. Have a quick flick through and bam, there's the lovely Fafi sporting her Alphabetter F necklace on p. 118. It may be back to front, but hey, I snuck into Yen again.

Curvy 5

Speaking of Yen, I thought I'd missed the Curvy 5 launch while I was overseas. Luckily I was mistaken, the Melbourne launch is next week.

Schwipe Don’t Come Gallery
Level 2/314 little Collins St, Melbourne
Launch: Thursday April 17 (6-9pm)
Public: Friday April 18 - Sunday May 3 (10am-5pm)

If you're at all hesitant, believe me - Curvy is not rubbish. Last years launch was also a blinder so you should be in for a good time.

Dunk Tier 0 launch - Melbourne

See what you missed if you weren't there... I had to check what went on because I was severely jet lagged at the time and I was right, there were heaps of new faces around. Good stuff, the more the merrier as they say.

Check details and flicks on Sneaker Freaker.

Last night I heard a guy from Connex say (or should we say, admit), "It's not the graffiti vandals that stop and delay trains, it's the bloody idiots that hold the doors open for their friends for 4 minutes."

Yes, he was in full uniform. I s'pose the Herald Sun would have something to say about that.

Back to reality

The 5 week break to Vancouver is over. I got to spend a bunch of time with VanCity's #1 Mayorette, Soph T which was fantastic. I was sad to leave and I miss the Vancouver fam like crazy already. Still, it's nice to be back home, there is always work to be done, places to be.

My first stop after grabbing a decent Coffee from Nosh, was to see Miss Soph D at the Dunk launch at Provider. Sorry to anyone I attempted to speak to, the jet lag had well and truly taken a hold by then.
